When anyone posts about their child on social media, especially if they’re a celebrity, they unfortunately open themselves up to the possibility of becoming a victim of parent-shaming. That’s exactly what happened to Kylie Jenner this past week: People are upset that Kylie’s baby has pierced ears, and the everyone on the internet has some thoughts on the situation.

!!"

About a week ago, Kylie posted an adorable video on Snapchat that showed her and her daughter Stormi cuddling. In the video, you can see that Stormi’s tiny ears are pierced. The video was posted by the Instagram fan account @kyliesnapchat, and it immediately got a ton of attention, with many users commenting to slam Kylie for piercing her daughter’s ears.

Controversy over piercing a baby’s ears is nothing new, so this isn’t exactly surprising. In fact, it’s a pretty common debate that comes up over and over again. On the Instagram post, some users wrote things like, “I just wouldn’t be able to sit and watch someone inflict pain on my baby that’s all!” and “Sticking a metal rod in any other part of a baby would be child abuse so why should earlobes be any different? Sick.”

While many users were infuriated with Kylie’s decision and didn’t waste time telling her how wrong it was, some users stepped up to defend her. A lot of users talked about how they had gotten their ears pierced when they were babies, and nothing bad ever happened to them.

Of course, the debate made its way to Twitter as well, where users argued about whether or not it’s okay for babies to get their ears pierced.

Some firmly believed Kylie had done the wrong thing:

Others feel that there’s nothing wrong with baby ear piercings:

Many felt that people are only saying it’s wrong because Kylie belongs to the Kardashian/Jenner family and because of her young age.

And others pointed out that piercing a baby’s ears is very common in other cultures. Which it is.

Kylie hasn’t responded to any of the controversy as of right now. At the end of the day, the fact of the matter is that this is Kylie’s daughter and Kylie’s decision. Mommy-shaming is never okay, even if a celebrity is involved. Let’s hope this one blows over quickly.
