Meghan Markle has undoubtedly won a spot in the hearts of many, for many reasons since the big engagement announcement. My admiration for her began when I noticed her flawless transition from Hollywood to the exclusive royal lifestyle. I’m sure making the decision to become a real-life princess (okay duchess — but it’s close enough) wasn’t a hard choice, but abiding by the royal rules has to be hard and downright annoying. Nevertheless, Meghan continues to oblige by this protocol with style and grace. Her most recent congratulatory moment happened this past weekend at Wimbledon, when she politely held her fedora hat during the entire event, all because of those darn royal orders.

We all know Meghan loves her hats, since she has been pictured in them many times.

From fedoras to berets, Meghan’s picks have become staples in the hat fashion realm. So we were all a little confused this weekend when she was spotted at Wimbledon, accompanied by her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, holding her hat instead of wearing it. She was even wearing a similar hat at Wimbledon the previous year. What happened this year?

Well, this year Meghan belongs to the royal family and was seated in the royal box. This seating area is invitation-only and reserved for royal families and prominent government officials. Only 74 VIPs are allowed to sit here, and naturally, this exclusivity came with a dress code.

In reference to the royal box, the Wimbledon website states, “Protocol — dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.” Unfortunately, the Meghan fedora wasn’t wanted. Kudos to her for politely removing it from her head. Let’s be real — I’m sure that was hard for her. We all know that awful feeling you get when your outfit doesn’t feel complete.

Yet, Meghan’s fashion was still on-point.

Those stunning retro-oval shades made up for the missing hat accessory and the pinstripe blue button-down shirt paired with wide, flowy trousers was perfect for the occasion. Meghan showed no disappointment, and she and Kate seemed to have an amazing time together watching the tennis match.

Kate and Meghan are seriously the perfect pair.
