Ever since she became a royal, it’s been hard for us not to notice Meghan Markle’s style. Even though she’s always been somewhat of a fashion icon, something big changed after she officially accepted the title of Duchess of Sussex. Before, we noted how her purses have changed up in favor of simpler clutches, and now it’s been revealed that she’s gotten pretty fond of a color that actually suits her quite well — pink.

!!"

Markle’s rocked a lot of solid outfits while out and about, but InStyle noticed that she seems to primarily stick to two shades — soft blush pink (on par with millennial pink, a color that has been insanely trendy the past few years) and white. The magazine noted that the duchess chose the color for three back-to-back events — Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, the Trooping of the Colour ceremony, and the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards, which all happened this week. Prior to the wedding, Markle had no issue wearing darker colors — for example, she wore black in her engagement pictures and looked stunning. So, why the change-up?

The first theory is that she simply likes the color. When you find something that works, you stick with it.

Lucas Armitage, a fashion stylist and writer, has another theory that might make some sense — Markle’s choosing neutrals since she doesn’t want to clash. “Meghan has opted for a neutral color once again. I feel this is a clever styling tactic as it will always work with the queen’s look,” Armitage told The Daily Mail, adding “The use of neutral colour on Meghan part is also a show of respect to the Queen so she never looks like she is trying to outshine her.”

The theory makes a lot of sense. Markle has gotten a lot of attention since it was announced that she’d be joining the royal family, so the choice of muted colors is a great way to pay respect. After all, she’s no longer an actress — she’s a representative of their family.

No matter what the reason, Meghan Markle will always look pretty in pink.
