Halloween might have come and gone, but some of us love to be spooked well into the holiday season. If you’re in the same boat, you’ll be happy to know that Netflix is releasing a new true crime series called The Innocent Man. In fact, the first trailer dropped on YouTube this morning, December 3rd… and we have major goosebumps, you guys.

!!"

The Innocent Man is based on John Grisham’s non-fiction book about two controversial murders in the early 1980s.

John Grisham is known for legal fiction novels, but in 2006, he published a non-fiction book called The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town. The new Netflix docuseries is based on this book.

It follows the investigation of two murders: Debra Sue Carter in 1982 and Donna Denice Haraway in 1984. Initially, the investigation left officials empty-handed. But as weak evidence and questionable confessions trickled in, four men received murder charges.

One of them included Ron Williamson, who spent 11 years on death row.

Like the best-selling book, the series will provide a captivating peek into the world of dishonest convictions, false confessions, and the minds of the people involved. Yet, the Netflix series also offers things that a book simply can’t: interview clips, old police footage, and the eerie vibe of old and forgotten cases.

Needless to say, The Innocent Man will probably give you more chills than a cold winter night.

The six-part docuseries is set to release on December 14th. Until then, you can now view the trailer on YouTube — if you dare.
