There is nothing like a face sprinkled with freckles. Whether you have a few across your nose or a face full of ‘em – we are obsessed!

!!"

What exactly are freckles you ask? They are tiny dots of pigment (melanin) that makes our skin become darker in the sun. They are also genetic, so if your parents have them, you are likely to have them too.

Freckles weren’t always a highlighted feature. In the past, people worked hard to cover them with makeup and desired a flawless face. In the 1950’s, having a suntan became a thing associated with wealth, warm vacations and leisure time spent outdoors. California surf culture was popular and represented youth with its sun-kissed glow. In the 90’s, both Chanel and Lancome came out with freckle makeup as the trend continued. In 2013, models were sent down the runways with freckled noses and cheeks. The trend has always represented a fresh, youthful and outdoorsy look – one that continues to be popular today.

Lucky are those who have a natural face of them but for those who do not and wish they did, we have some solutions for you!

Tattoo

Perhaps you are fully ready to get your freckle on and you are a “go big or go home” type of gal – this method is for you. You now can have them tattooed on! This trend has been getting quite a bit of attention on social media these days and we have to say that they look pretty rad. Finding yourself a reputable cosmetic tattoo artist who has experience in freckle tattooing is key. As every person has different skin coloring, your freckles must be matched to your skin tones. To get a realistic look, the tattoos should vary in shape, size and color as natural freckles do. When they are first done, they are much darker and the skin surrounding them looks red and inflamed, but if you can tough it out during this phase, you will be looking beautifully sun-kissed once they are all healed.

Glitter & Gems

This is an easy and pretty look for a fun night out or if you are headed to a music festival. With such a variety in color, shape and size, choosing the glitter is a big part of the fun. Using a small dab of Vaseline (or Waxelene if you are petroleum adverse), apply a very thin layer across your cheeks and nose. Add some of your favorite glitter to the top and you are ready to go! If you are using a larger glitter or rhinestone, you may want to use eyelash glue for each piece to place each one in the perfect spot. A little soap and water or a makeup wipe will have you freckle-free when the night is done.

Freck

We came across this awesome product when searching for a product that is super easy to apply while still looking natural. Freck is a liquid makeup that is applied with a tiny brush. The beauty of this product is that you can build your freckles, creating a very natural look. Starting with a few small freckles, you can blot them with your fingertip to lighten the color and vary the shape – doing this will create your “base” of freckles. From there you can add on creating darker freckles and more depth to your look. The color is a reddish brown that can be darker or lighter depending on the amount you blot them. We are even more in love with Freck because it doesn’t wipe off if you touch your face so you can keep your freckles in place all day without needing to touch up – unless you want to, of course! At the end of the day, Freck comes off easily when you wash your makeup off so you are ready for a fresh face of freckles the next day.
