It’s no secret that moving in with your partner (or anyone, for that matter) calls for the willingness to compromise. But when your name is Meghan Markle and your husband is Prince Harry, those compromises are far from average. The Queen, after all, just gifted the couple a beautiful new cottage — and you can be sure that they’ll have to follow royal rules when it comes to making their house a home.

!!"

In 2019, Harry & Megan will be moving into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

This isn’t just any cottage, though. According to Emily Andrews, Royal Correspondent for The Sun, Frogmore Cottage is where the couple took their engagement photos. It’s also where they hosted their private wedding party. How romantic, right?

The cottage needs major renovations, as it has been used as housing for the palace staff. Currently, the residence is split into five separate units, so “it needs major work to turn it back into a luxury family home,” says Andrews. (Oh, and it has a casual 10 bedrooms, nursery, and space for a gym and yoga studio. NBD.)

Here’s where the rules come rolling in. First, the couple needs to have their royal renovation plans approved (which, BTW, officially happened this past July, according to Hello!). Additionally, before the royal couple moves in, the cottage needs additional security and protection measures.

And when it comes to decorating? The couple might be offered specific vendors. As royal expert Myka Meier told Architectural Digest, there are several companies that have earned a Royal Warrant of Appointment. In other words, a business with this title “has supplied exceptional goods or services to the royal family for at least five years,” says Meier. Apparently, things like fabric and furniture polish have warrants.

Plus, it’s also worth mentioning that the couple was limited to furniture and interior updates when they decorated their former apartment in the historic Nottingham Cottage.

While the rules may or may not apply to their new home, it’s safe to say that there’s a lot to remember when you’re the newest member of the royal family. How does Meghan do it?

One thing is for sure, though: We can’t wait to see what they do with the place.
