My experience with dogs has taught me how to manage dog hair, but I never allowed them on the furniture, and their hair was easy to remove. Fast forward to earlier last year, my “not on furniture” dog passed away, and we got a new furry family member named Zara. Hubs grew up in a house that allowed dogs on the furniture, so when we saw that Zara could jump on the furniture, we had to decide. We did it the good ol’ American way and put it to a vote. So, he won. Zara’s hair is like nothing I’ve seen before.. once it gets onto cloth, it often clings to the point that the hairs must be pulled out individually.
Fast forward again to last week when I finally decided to get this Chom Chom gadget. I am ASTOUNDED at how well it works. I think the secret is with the little squeegee on the roller. I’ve tried using a squeegee on the carpet before, and it really does work, but it cannot easily be done in more than one direction and must be done with a vacuum nearby to gather whatever gets pulled up. Also, the squeegee ends up with pet hair, so it needs to be cleaned before it gets put back into service for cleaning glass.
With the Chom Chom, you get the benefit of the squeegee, but since it is on the roller, it is easier to do back-and-forth strokes. And then, as for how the dog hair gets off the roller and into the hair collection chamber.. maybe it is sorcery? I have no idea how that works, but IT DOES!! In full honesty, I still have to do extra strokes to get all of Zara’s hair, but the amount that the Chom Chom picks up relative to the number of passes I have to make over the fabric is unbelievable! Once the chamber is full, I use a handheld vac to remove the hair, and it is ready to go again!
– Some dog hair gets trapped in the side hinges of the collection chamber door and must be pulled out with the fingers. It is possible that if I cleaned it before it got SO FULL, that problem would go away, but we have SO MUCH dog hair, and the gadget is so effective that I would be emptying it every few minutes.
– The button to open the collection chamber door is right where I place my thumb for strength, so I tend to pop it open when I am doing the actual rolling task (I seem to have this problem with a lot of products that have a button in the center, so that might be a “me” problem.)
– The Chom Chom is 7.5″ wide, which is excellent for cleaning furniture, but a narrower version would be better for clothing, especially when the dog hair gets on the clothes while they’re being worn, and it would be impractical to remove the clothes (e.g. if you get dog hair on your black pants when you ride in your co-worker’s car to lunch during the workday.)
BOTTOM LINE: I have had this little gadget for less than a week and have already recommended it to several people. I wrote this review while I was looking to see if they had a narrower model for my car/office/coat closet. I wish I had owned this years ago, and I would 100% buy it again!
For the past three years, I have owned this Chom-Chom. It still works. I have two cats who leave their hair on couches, chairs, rugs, pillows, and blankets – basically anywhere soft, and the Chom-Chom works to remove it. The only thing to know about it is that you move it rapidly back and forth over the area you want to remove pet hair from rather than roll it as you would a glue-based lint roller. It’s also easy to clean, and since there are no adhesive surfaces, there’s nothing to replace. Buy this – you will not be disappointed!
The shedding of both my cat and husky is uncontrollable. Before, we were using regular lint rollers, but they were too small, and we went through the sheets so quickly. Then I bought a large lint roller specifically made for pets, but it wasn’t as sticky, and we also went through sheets quicker with that. I don’t know how I came across this thing, but this is that! It’s so easy to use, and it can hold a good amount before you dump it and it’s so good! Plus, I’m saving money on lint rollers.
The only thing that I don’t like is the button that opens it up. It’s so easy to open it up while trying to use/roll it. I would change that to a smaller or shorter button or something that’s not easily triggered while using it. I also wish it were a little bigger, but it’s a good size, and overall, I love it and highly recommend it if you have pets.
It works! Without any before or after pictures, I can confidently say that the Chom-Chom picks up pet hair effectively. I have used it on the bed, couch, and cat tree. I knew I needed to have it handy as soon as I saw it because of our pet hair situation.
