Dear Stay-At-Home Mom,
Being alone is not a crime.
It doesn’t mean that you’re selfish or not good enough or that you can’t “handle it.”
It doesn’t mean that you don’t love your kids.
It doesn’t mean that you aren’t grateful for all that your husband does.
It just means that you are HUMAN.
You are not a robot.
You have needs. (And sometimes, those needs include the desire to hear your own thoughts.)
So, please, you perfect, awesome, amazing mother, GO. And be alone.
Don’t justify it to anyone.
Go and have a thought in silence. Go do it.
Make sure the kids are safe, and lock the bathroom door next time you take a pee.
Sit on the patio, or in your car, for 3 minutes during the witching hour.
Tell your husband you’re going to bed at 7pm and can he put the kids to bed tonight.
Go.
Be alone.
And don’t feel an ounce of guilt about it.
