It’s nearly impossible to forget the last time we saw Hannah Montana on Disney Channel, as her parting words were just so raw.
While we previously assumed the character not wanting to “pretend anymore” referred to her double life, Miley Cyrus, 26, is offering more clarity about leaving behind the identity she played for the majority of her adolescence.
In a telling interview for Elle’s August issue, the “Mother’s Daughter” singer revealed the moment she had to break away from her character’s mold.

“Once I was 18…it felt ridiculous. The minute I had sex, I was kind of like, I can’t put the f*cking wig on again. It got weird,” she explained. “I was grown up.”
And honestly, her reason is completely valid.
Despite making the difficult decision to leave, Miley realized it was her only option to preserve the magic for the fans.
“One time I went backstage at Disneyland, and Peter Pan was smoking a cigarette. And I was like, “That’s me. That’s the kind of dreams I’m crushing.” That’s how everyone felt with the bong video, but I’m not a Disney mascot. I’m a person.”
In June, Miley’s debut on Black Mirror as a successful pop singer — who also leads a double life — struck fans.

“The character is me. They twisted it up the way they always do, but the industry is already pretty dark,” she opened up to the oulet. “And at times, I’ve definitely felt like Ashley O. I still do. Making this record, I felt like Ashley O at times.”
Miley also opened up more about being pansexual and gender-fluid in the interview, noting, “I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it. I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f*cking apron cooking dinner?”

“I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women. People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f*cking good, and I know that. I made a partner decision,” she explained. “This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”
While we’ve missed her past iconic character, it’s been so fun seeing Miley pay tribute to both Hannah Montana and Ashley O on Instagram.
Like when she cut her hair just like Hannah’s.

And then told us “Hannah Montana is punk now.”

Or when she posted a throwback to honor Hannah Montana’s 13th anniversary with a picture of her big move to Los Angeles.

Even at the Met Gala this year, she had us wondering where we’d seen the look before.

Or how she referenced a “premonition” from the show to her current life.

In the clip, Hannah says, “This has always been my dream: Being on national television holding my own booty.”
Cue a close-up of Miley grabbing her butt on the Bangerz tour.
And how she compared her hit “7 Things” to Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings.”

Basically, any time she posts a throwback, we rejoice!

I mean, how could anyone forget this work of art??

And we have a feeling Ashley O could’ve been an even bigger hit.

Still, she admits at the end of the day, “It’s pretty cool when you hear Cardi B was listening to Hannah Montana when she was in high school. That sh*t makes me happy.”
Sweet niblets, we’re just so proud of Miley for living her dream and releasing her 7th album!
