This Woman’s Dress Code For Her Wedding Guests Is Seriously Offensive

Having a wedding is a big deal — it’s an event that often connects your nearest and dearest to watch one of the biggest moments of your life. It can also be pretty costly, if you choose to have a full event. Between food, flowers, wedding attire, and renting a venue, the bills can really add up. But even though guests will end up paying in some form — typically with a gift, if not with travel expenses — it’s a little unresonable to pass any sort of additional cost onto the guest. After all, it’s your party.

One woman likely didn’t get that memo, and a message she sent to her guests is going viral. It seems like her 2019 wedding is set in Hawaii, which is expensive enough. But she is also requiring a specific dress code for her guests that is both pricey and almost impossible to accomplish.

No, she didn’t just state that guests can’t wear white, which is standard etiquette for American weddings. Instead, she set out a whole ensemble for a dance routine she’s hoping her guests achieve.

“I am giving you a long notice of a year and a half so that you will have time to find and pick out something nice,” the bride wrote. “The dress code is very specific because it will be used to create an incredible visual effect. If done right, it will make our synchronized dancing along the [redacted] beach really pop.” Yikes.

She also organized her dress code by weight. For women under 160 lbs, they were expected to wear green velvet sweaters, orange suede pants, and red-bottomed Louboutins. If you’re unfamiliar with shoes, those often cost between $700 and $1,000. A Burberry scarf is also mentioned, which is a few hundred more.

Men between 100 and 200 lbs have to wear purple fuzzy jackets, all white trainers, a soda hat (which yes, is like the kind you have a beer on either side of), and glow sticks. Guests heavier than that luck out — women over 160 just need to wear all black, and men need to wear camouflage. The message is incredibly insulting, sure — but at least you can pull together an ensemble for under $20.

After the message went viral, the bride replied with an invite for a party “in honor of the snitch who sold me out.” The theme is “Polygraph,” as she bought one online for $99.

Guests would have to pass a test for her to figure out who made her wedding dance go viral for the wrong reasons.

“If you can’t make it to the Polygraph Party, you will be presumed guilty unless you can provide a valid excuse,” she said, per screencaps on Cheezburger.

So, future brides? Take note. Your wedding is celebrating your future marriage — let the guests choose what to wear, and let them just sit and enjoy your beautiful ceremony and reception in peace.
