She’s beauty and she’s grace. She’s Miss World’s Ugliest Dog 2018! We’re pleased to introduce you to Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog who took home the award for World’s Ugliest Dog of 2018 at the Sonoma-Marin Fair on June 23rd. Zsa Zsa may be certified ugly, but she sure is one of the cutest pooches we’ve ever seen.
Zsa Zsa, named after famous actress and glamazon Zsa Zsa Gabor, was rescued by her mom Megan Brainard in 2014. Before the now 9-year-old bulldog was adopted, Zsa Zsa unfortunately spent five years in a Missouri puppy mill. Fortunately, her painful past is long behind her, and Zsa Zsa, with her tongue hanging out of her enormous underbite, has been crowned queen of ugly (and queen of our hearts).
Brainard treated her pup to a pink manicure and sparkly collar before the big day. And although she may look like the real-life version of one of those demon dogs from Ghostbusters, Zsa Zsa’s cuddly and loving personality helped her take home the prize, Brainard told The New York Times. Zsa Zsa won over the judges with a sneeze and some slobber while wolfing down part of a Slim Jim.
“She is just so ugly, she’s beautiful,” Brainard said.
Alongside a trophy and some serious ugly dog street cred, Zsa Zsa and Brainard also took home $1,500. A matched donation will be given to Underdog Rescue, the nonprofit that rescued Zsa Zsa and connected her with her mom.
The entire mission of the World’s Ugliest Dog competition is to raise awareness about dog adoption and to remind dog-lovers that there’s always a pooch out there — “ugly” or not — who needs a home. Congrats to Zsa Zsa to drooling her way to the top. We can’t wait to see you on the cover of Vogue in the near future!
