Most breakup stories are boring. The majority of the time a person and their S.O. decide to end things because the relationship is simply not working out. While they both might feel pain, anger, and — gasp — even yell at each other, there’s usually nothing to write home about. Of course, that’s not always the case. While most breakups can be a tad bit dramatic, there are some breakup stories that fall on the cusp of insanity.
Let’s be real, romantic relationships are never easy. Whether you’ve been with the person for two weeks or two years, it’s tough being vulnerable with someone you deeply care about. And while having love for each other is important, it’s not the only factor to consider when building a life together. However, that doesn’t take away the fact that breakups are tough, and while no one wants to seem like the bad guy (or girl) in any romantic relationship, it’s inevitable that crazy breakup stories will surface when things go sideways.
Even though not all relationships will last and breakups suck, we can learn a lot from these stories so we don’t replicate these crazy instances again. That’s why we decided to search the web for the most bonkers breakup stories we’ve ever read. Because whether you’re in a relationship or not, at least you can thank the relationship gods that you weren’t in a partnership with these people below.
Even though you may notice a few warning signs at the beginning of a relationship, you may not consider them to be clear red flags because you’re infatuated with this person. However, constantly seeing your relationship through rose-colored glasses can make you miss the negative stuff…like having your S.O. interrupting your professor during class to say “hi” or purposely trying to get pregnant without you knowing it.

But alas, it happens. Because most dreams are completely out of your control, you shouldn’t assume that they’re going to actually happen. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for this Reddit user. While they tried to explain to their S.O. that they were, in fact, not cheating, their S.O. didn’t believe them, and called it quits.
When you’re gone for a summer, you probably assume that everything will work out with your relationship while you both try to do long distance. Yes, you may miss a few Skype sessions and may even get into a few arguments; however, you never imagine for your S.O., who, by the way, is supposed to pick you up from the airport in a few hours, to call the airport you’re having a layover in to call it quits because they fell in love with someone else. Worst summer ever? Uh, heck yes.

It’s normal to want your S.O. to become really close with your friends. You want them to get along after all and possibly hang out without you around. But that doesn’t mean that they should have sex in a bathroom. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened with to this Reddit user, after he found them in a public toilet.
No matter how long you’ve been with the person, breaking up with them in person is the right thing to do. Not only is it respectful, but it gives the S.O. closure. But for user le_ironic_username, not only did they get broken up with via email, they also almost had the entire email projected in front of their entire class, after their professor spied on their computer screen. Luckily, ripping the power cord stopped that from happening.

Throwing a party at your house can be fun. You get to meet a lot of people, hang out with friends, and maybe even meet your next romantic partner. However, just because you might’ve met “The One” doesn’t mean they can stay at your house for six days straight and assume that they’re in a relationship with you.
Even though you may be in a relationship with someone doesn’t mean people will stop making advances at you. However, that doesn’t mean it’s right to say yes to the first person who decides to ask you out and break up with your S.O. over the phone. While we don’t know the full story of this situation, this is one crazy way to break up with someone.

It’s not the right thing to do to move away from your S.O. and randomly start dating someone else. While most people will do this behind their S.O.’s back, user ohlalameow said that her partner decided to tell her about his new relationship like it was no big deal. Although this user rightfully started to date someone else, their ex-boyfriend still believed they were together when he found out.
It’s incredibly thoughtful to receive a poem from your S.O…but not exactly like this. While this is a quick and easy way to say bon voyage to your partner, opt to break up with your S.O. in person and write romantic poems for a person you actually want to be in a relationship with. Just sayin’.

This is a horrible thing to do. Not only did this person abandon their S.O. when they needed them most, but they also told Reddit user Keskekun, “I was not made to be with something broken.” Yikes. Thankfully, this relationship didn’t last, but it’s incredible to think this woman really thought they would be together after this.
While it’s cool to go to see psychics and mediums to get their predictions and advice, you want to weigh your options and consider your feelings before you make any life-long decisions, especially if the medium tells your mother that your S.O. “has no soul.”

Normally, when people decide to break up with their long-distance S.O., they’ll do it over the phone or Skype or take the trip down to do it in person. However, this woman asked their partner to drive three hours to meet them for a “big surprise.” And, well, the rest is history.
Thanks to technology, you’re able to meet your next romantic partner from the comfort of your couch. While some people have gotten married after meeting online, some might call it quits because it just wasn’t the right fit. Even though the latter was the case for this Reddit user, the guy she met online was toxic and tried to pressure her into marrying him. Good thing she got out of that relationship.

Especially, when your girlfriend decides to break up with you because she reevaluated her life and realized she wanted to be with an old flame while you accidentally lost your phone during a time when she got into a car accident. Although she initially really wanted to go with him on this vacation, you can say that things maybe happened for a reason?
It can be considered a sweet gesture to randomly visit your partner, especially if they’re in a long-distance relationship. But making it a weekly occurrence can throw their partner’s life off track. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only thing that happened to user apayne35. Not only did their S.O. surprise them two weekends in a row, but he also told them he loved them (after four weeks) and confessed about a scary past. Of course, he refused to leave their dorm until they called the cops on him.
