No time for the gym, kids running around since they can’t play outdoors either, you have your hands full. If you’re that busy mom then keep on reading. If you’re just a human that doesn’t want to venture out into the blistering cold or hates the outdoors in general, you can stay too. There are plenty of inside activities to do while it is snowing outside. You can workout at home or around the town. Never say never this season, so let’s avoid that dreaded holiday weight gain and get moving, shall we?
Home for the Holidays
It’s snowing, you’re trapped inside, but need to workout to contain your sanity. What do you do? No, don’t you dare reach for that sugar cookie. Hurry, distraction time! Grab your phone, download a fitness app and start moving that body. Work it, girl! Apps on your phone are a great way to stay motivated. You can track what exercises you do, track your food and see what else you should be paying attention to while staying healthy. It’s like a personal nutritionist at the palm of your hand.
Another way to keep up with your workouts is to try out some online fitness videos. Open your laptop, go to YouTube and type in whatever kind of exercise you’re feeling for that day. If it’s leg day, search for that. Welcome to the digital age where you can have a personal trainer for free! One of our favorites is Blogilates by Cassey Ho. She’ll take you on a journey from beginners pilates to advanced bootcamp workouts. With her bubbly personality and knowledge of human health, Cassey is the go to instructor for your at home workouts.
If exercising seems boring or too much work for you, try a video game. You read that right. Technology today has advanced so much that you can now play a game and tone your muscles at the same time. Plenty to choose from whether you want to Just Dance or throw a Zumba Party all day to Playing Golf Keeping Fit with the Whole Family. All you need is that game console you, your kids, or your significant other is hoarding. Fun for friends and family, these games will keep you on your toes and out of the cold.
Finally, if you’re wanting a little more competition, try out the thousands of 30 day fitness challenge calendars you can find on Pinterest. Find the routine you want to try out, grab a friend (my bestie and I love the squat challenges), and start having fun. It will give you a list of exercises and reps each day and that’s it. Hey, maybe it’s not marathon training, but you’re still moving and staying active with your friends. Give it a chance and let us know how it worked out for you!
Local Gym Access Only
Well, well, well, look what we have here. A gym buff. Just kidding, unless you are. You’re one of those fitness enthusiasts that have a gym membership (I’m jealous). You know your machines and classes, but for those of you that don’t, hear me out. It’s cold, kids are crying, you got into a fight with your significant other, or you’re just bored. Instead of eating that cookie and sulking, go to a gym and workout your frustration and anxieties. You’ll feel a lot better after that then eating that sweet.

Just keep swimming! You love the water and it loves you right back. Doing laps is a great way to workout your whole body from arms, core, and legs. Think about it next time you’re at the gym. Another way to change up your regular routine, throw some rowing into the mix. You can time yourself and see if you can beat Olympic athletes (never say never). If you’re interested in taking up a new hobby, then kick boxing might be goof for you. You can channel your anger, fear, and energy into this sport that will have you in shape in no time. Don’t forget to check out the classes that your local gym offers. I recommend a yoga or spinning class. Again, much more excitement when you’re keeping up your fitness with friends. Grab a buddy and get to class.

Let’s Bring it Around Town
If you like to be active outside of the home, but don’t want to be locked in a gym with other minions walking on the treadmill, let’s explore something else. Your town. It’s winter, go ice skating. It’s not just for kids anymore. Make it a date night and get your ice on. The cold still not your thing? Go dancing on the weekend with your girls. Hit up that club you never thought you’d go to or even take a dance class. It’s fun, a lot of sweaty, and it’s a killer workout made just for you.

Lastly, if you’re more into sports than specific routines or challenges, kick it old school. Winter sports are a thing. Indoor soccer is always a popular choice. Get a league going with your friends and see where it takes you. If you’re more into the basketball court, I’m not stopping you (unless you try to shoot a basket). Being active is the most important thing to remember. As long as you’re moving, you’re doing something right.
