If you’ve been dreaming about creating your own Instagram filters, now’s your chance to show the world your filter skills. Facebook has officially opened up its Instagram augmented reality (AR) filter building tool, Spark, to the general public. And people are already going HAM with the effects.

!!"

Since its creation in October 2018, access to Spark AR Studio has been limited to only a handful of creators who were able to make filters and upload them to Instagram Stories. But now, both Windows and macOS users everywhere can design and upload filters to the platform.

Let your creative juices flow, Instagram users.

“Starting today, anyone can create and publish their own Spark AR effects on Instagram,” Facebook announced in an August 13th blog post. “AR lets artists, creators, and designers make custom effects to share with their communities and enable more vibrant forms of digital expression — and we’re happy to help bring the Spark AR community’s creative visions to life.”

By downloading the Spark AR Studio to your computer, you can now create whatever filter you can possible imagine. Add 3D images, sounds, face-tracking effects, and more. Then, upload to Instagram and watch as people explore your unique creations through their own Stories.

Everyone on Instagram is now able to join the roster of talented Spark AR creators that have been flaunting their filters on the platform for the past year.

And we’re pretty excited, even if we’re not the most tech-savvy folks — yet.

It’s time to look for some serious inspiration.
