In a November 12th YouTube video, content creator Lilly Singh announced she’s taking a break from the video platform. Singh, who is also known as IISuperwomanII, plans to focus on her mental health and recharge in order to come back with great new content and ideas.

“I am mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausted,” Singh stated in her video, which was broadcasted to her 14 million subscribers. “I have been doing YouTube consistently for eight years. For eight years I’ve been putting out videos, and for a lot of those years, I’ve been doing it twice a week plus the daily vlogs. It’s been a lot.”

Although she reassured her fanbase that she’s enjoyed the work she’s put in over these eight years, Singh said she wants to find happiness outside of the platform. During her hiatus, Singh hopes to practice what she preaches and take care of herself mentally and emotionally.

The YouTuber, who has a collective 16 million subscribers between her two channels, also mentioned that she’s currently confused about how the platform has changed and how she’ll manage to fit in amongst the shifting landscape.

“YouTube has changed,” she continued. “People have found a way to make it work for them. I am not one of those people.”

Unclear of how long this break will be, Singh wanted to clarify that she’s not ending her YouTube career. She will be working more on her outside projects, but does not plan to leave the platform entirely.

“I just know,” Singh said, “until I decide I’m ready, I’m not going to be posting any main channel videos or any vlogs, just until my soul feels ready to do so.”

YouTube’s algorithm shift has resulted in many top-performing content creators to sign off for a period of time to reevaluate their channel’s purpose. As Singh mentioned, Grace Helbig and Alisha Marie are two other YouTubers who have decided to put their content creation on hold to focus on their mental wellbeing.

We hope Singh enjoys her time off, and comes back feeling refreshed and ready to take on the platform once again.
