It’s been over a week since we caught wind that there was trouble in paradise for Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson on October 14th. Now, Davidson has finally opened up about his recent breakup in the best way he knows how.

!!"

The Saturday Night Live star hosted a comedy fundraiser alongside Judd Apatow on Saturday, October 20th. According to E! News, Davidson used part of his set to address his relationship status.

“Well, as you could tell, I don’t want to be here. There’s a lot going on,” Davidson joked. “Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?” Oof. We’re laughing through the tears.

Davidson also brought up the several Grande-inspired tattoos he got throughout their months-long relationship and likened his need to cover them up to his previous couple’s tattoo experience with ex Cazzie David. “I’m f—king 0 for 2 in the tattoo [department]. Yeah, I’m afraid to get my mom tattooed on me, that’s how bad it is.”

He then confirmed, “Obviously you know I, we [Ariana and I] broke up or whatever, but when me and her first got engaged we got tattoos.” He continued, “And it was like in a magazine like, ‘Was Pete Davidson stupid?’ And 93% of it said yes. So my boy, he was like, ‘Don’t listen to that s—t man. They’re literally f—king haters.’ And I’m like, yeah, f—k that. I’m not stupid. And the other day we were in my kitchen and he was like, ‘Yo bro. Turns out you were stupid.’”

Obviously, the wound has yet to scab over and these jokes, although funny, must have also been painful. Apatow thanked Davidson for remaining on the fundraiser docket, titled Judd & Pete for America, despite the breakup. “I care more about America than Pete’s feelings,” Apatow joked.

“I feel like I am America,” Davidson retorted. “I’m a good guy that just keeps getting kicked in the dick. You’re like, ‘Ah, that f—king poor kid. Hope he doesn’t kill himself.’ That’s America.”

Grande spoke out about the breakup in a now-deleted Instagram post stating that she needed to tune out social media for a while.

We wish Davidson and Grande the best, and hope they’re doing whatever they need to in order to begin the healing process.
