Miley Cyrus Just Released A New Song, And More Than A Few Lines Seem To Be About Liam

Miley, you’re adding insult to injury! After calling it quits with husband Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus released a heartbreaking song that’s so clearly about their separation. And honestly, we’re finding it really hard to listen to. We’re just so sad.

Called “Slide Away,” the song is honestly a bop, because who are we kidding? Cyrus knows how to write a good tune. But the fact that it’s blatantly about her fresh breakup makes us want to sob rather than drive down the highway with the windows down, you know?

Some of the painfully poignant lyrics include, “So won’t you slide away? / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights,” (Hemsworth is a coastal Australian boy and Cyrus is a city-slicker), and “Move on, we’re not 17 / I’m not who I used to be / You say that everything changed / You’re right, we’re grown now” (they met 10 years ago when Miley was 17).

Cyrus also sings, “I want my house in the hills / Don’t want the whiskey and pills,” which some believe may be alluding to her dislike of Hemsworth’s alleged partying habits.

A source told People after the separation, “Everyone always thinks Miley is problematic and immature and a hardcore partier while he’s this chill surfer dude, but that’s actually [not accurate]. Liam parties with his friends, and Miley thinks he should’ve grown out of that by now.”

Yeah, we’re sliding into misery. We’ll be okay. Just give us a minute.

Do yourself a favor and refrain from torturing yourself by listening to “Malibu” and then “Slide Away.” Don’t do it.

And definitely don’t go listen to her other breakup songs, then “Malibu,” then “Slide Away.” We beg you.

Hemsworth addressed his separation with Cyrus in his own way.

He wrote in an August 13th Instagram post, “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

“This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets,” he continued. “Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

No matter how you slice it, this celebrity breakup sucks. The silver lining is this amazing song — but still. It stings.

It’s not fair, Miley. It’s just not fair!

And like…We didn’t even know it was coming. The shock almost killed us.

Honestly, we wish. That would be a good plot twist.

STOP. IT.

Seriously. ENOUGH.

What are you all trying to do to us? We’re already in bed, sobbing hysterically.

We’ve been reduced to sad, floating Goofy. Thanks.

This breakdown is really good. We hate it.

Knowing the nature of their relationships, we’re unfortunately holding out hope that Cyrus and Hemsworth may just reunite in the coming months. It’s happened many times before, right? So, why can’t it happen again.

But we also understand that they’re going through their own private matters, and their decisions are theirs to make alone (without public input). We just…We just really love them.

We’ll do our best to move on. But having “Slide Away” on repeat isn’t helping.
