Meghan…? You look different. On August 4th, the Duchess of Sussex attended the wedding of one of Prince Harry’s longtime pals, Charlie van Straubenzeeand. Meghan Markle showed up to the event looking absolutely fab in a Club Monaco dress and matching black hat. And obviously, her hair was dark brown — or was it? A photo roaming around the internet is confusing the heck out of people because in it, Markle looks like she’s half-blonde, half-brunette.
If there was any doubt in our minds that Markle couldn’t pull off blonde hair, it’s gone out the window. The photo in question captured Markle while she exited the ceremony alongside a few friends. As she peers over her shoulder, it looks as if she’s growing blonde hair out of the right side of her head.
It’s kind of like a Yanny versus Laurel situation. You first think, Woah this is a new look. Did the Queen approve this half-and-half ‘do? But upon further inspection, you notice that the blonde locks aren’t Markle’s. They belong to the woman standing behind the duchess.
Tricky! Very tricky!
This optical illusion made us wonder if royals are even allowed to switch up their hair color. Are dye jobs a no-no along with colorful nail polish and bright lipstick?

According to a January 2018 Harper’s Bazaar article, Kate Middleton visits a colorist regularly to rid her hair of grays. But our research turned up nothing in regards to whether or not royals can indulge in a color switch-up.
Although, being aware of the laundry list of other rules the women of the royal family must follow (including keeping nail color and makeup on the natural side, and making sure hair is always done neatly and properly), we have a feeling that drastic hair changes are a no-go by order of the Queen.

When you have tresses as beautiful as Meghan Markle’s and Kate Middleton’s, staying true to your natural color is certainly not a hard thing to do. But Meghan — if you want to dabble with blonde, we support you.
