Are you a GoT super fan? Take Westeros out of your TV screen and into your house with these 20 Game of Thrones decor ideas.
Stained glass windows don’t have to be exclusively used at churches. They come in all shapes and sizes, and will immediately make your house feel fancier.
Stained glass tends to be a feature of old houses. Even if you don’t already have it installed, it’ll look right at home in a Victorian.
That doesn’t mean modern homes can’t have it. The GoT aesthetic may be harder to pull off for you, but small details like these make all the difference.
If you want to go all in on your Game of Thrones decor, you’ll need an Iron Throne. It’s arguably the most iconic symbol of the franchise.
Of course, you probably don’t have a bunch of swords lying around that you can melt down into a chair. So, how can you recreate it at home?
There’s lots of different ways. This one person on Reddit covered their lawn chair with cardboard and fashioned swords out of yoga mats.
This particular piece of Game of Thrones decor doubles as an art project. Want a fun activity to do with kids? This is it.
It definitely helps if you can sew, but it’s not a necessity. In fact, YouTuber Jessica Hill created her own banners out of felt.
If you have any experience with the Cricut or other such devices, then this’ll be a piece of cake. Hill used it for the sigils.
What better way to make your house seem like a castle than to add a chandelier? While some people might think they’re gaudy, we think they’re classy.
It does depend a lot on the kind you choose, though. For Game of Thrones decor, a Gothic chandelier might be your best bet.
These chandeliers have an edge to them that others, like crystal chandeliers, just don’t. Swap out electric lights for candles if you want to go all the way.
Since Game of Thrones is inspired by Medieval times, a few antique furniture pieces will really tie everything together. What specific pieces you buy is up to you.
We know that it’s hard to get your hands on furniture from the Middle Ages. GoT isn’t historically accurate, though, so your furniture doesn’t have to be, either.
To find such furniture, thrift shops and antique stores are your best friend. You could also pay a visit to local auctions and see what’s up for grabs.
If you really want to live like a Lannister, then your house will need a touch of rustic elegance. Stone walls and faux brick can help with that.
You can go with either or, but we don’t recommend both. The textures will clash too much, making for an overall incohesive design.
If you’d rather not go through the process of exposing actual brick or adding actual stone, there are alternatives. There are wallpapers that have the same effect.
Royals can’t go without their luxurious fabrics! We’re talking velvet, brocade, tapestries, the whole shebang. These will instantly make your house look lush.
Where can you put these fabrics? Well, curtains, bedspreads, and tablecloths are all contenders. Brocade is especially good at making everything look fancier.
As for tapestries, you don’t have to spend a fortune on one. You could crochet your own, if you’re well-versed in fiber arts (or need a new hobby).
If you’ve been watching House of the Dragon with a sharp eye, you’ll know that there’s art all over the Red Keep. They’re mostly tapestries, but still.
While it depends your personal preferences, Medieval-esque art works best. Many people like to recreate Medieval art, so it’s not as hard to obtain as you might think.
Still, this isn’t a necessity. With the right kind of frame, anything can fit into your Game of Thrones decor. More on that later.
Game of Thrones featured several beautiful courtyards during its run. If you want to mimic a castle, you’ll need a courtyard. They can tie a whole castle together.
Obviously, you’re not actually living in a castle. If you don’t have a courtyard, then what can you do? Turn to your backyard, of course.
Try modeling it after the Red Keep, or your favorite palace courtyard in the series. You could plant the same plants, or give it the same layout.
After a long day of managing the kingdom’s affairs, what do you think the kings and queens of Westeros did? Lounge by the fireplace, of course.
If you already have a fireplace, then you can decorate it to make it look more Medieval. Try hanging artwork nearby, or placing cool knick-knacks on it.
If you don’t have a traditional fireplace, you don’t have to install one. An electric fireplace has the same vibes, without the work you’d put into actual fire.
The dining room is where you’ll set a feast fit for royalty. Its decor has to match. If you like intricate designs, then brocade can make for a great tablecloth.
What better way to feel like a Game of Thrones noble than to dine by candlelight? If you’re worried about the tablecloth catching fire, then opt for electric.
If you want some direction on antique furniture pieces, we suggest looking for tables and chairs. Wooden chairs with velvet cushions, for example, work nicely.
Modeling your bedroom after Game of Thrones isn’t as hard as you might think. Really, all you need is a canopy. Every bed looks better with a canopy.
The type of canopy you choose largely depends on your bedspread. The simpler your bedspread, the easier it’ll be to find a matching canopy.
White, gauzy canopies like the one depicted above are all light and dreamy. While not as dramatic as, say, a red one, it gets the message across.
A map of Westeros would probably be more authentic. Honestly, though, any cool-looking map will do for your Game of Thrones decor.
It shouldn’t be too difficult to get your hands on a GoT map. However, you can look for old maps in antique shops for something more generalized.
This simple decoration can be placed anywhere in your house. Whether it’s your home office or your bedroom, it’ll give your home the fantasy upgrade you’ve been needing.
Aside from the political intrigue, the most memorable scenes in Game of Thrones were the battles. What better way to bring Westeros into your home than with swords?
Since you won’t actually be going to battle with it, you’ll want to invest in a nice display case. It’ll instantly make every room look cooler.
You could also do the same with armor pieces, though suits of armor are lot more expensive. We can’t blame you if you still want one, though.
Finally, we’re onto frames! As mentioned earlier, framing is everything. It doesn’t matter if it’s a map or a painting — the frame ties it all together.
So, what kind of frame should you go for? Baroque frames are detailed and intricate, which will make your home decor all the more luxurious.
If you don’t have anything to frame yet, try getting a Baroque-style mirror. They have the same effect as the frames, and look just as cool.
At a loss for what to plant in your “castle courtyard”? Try planting some herbs! Herb gardens aren’t just pretty to look at. They’re useful, too.
If you don’t have a backyard to create such a garden in, don’t worry. This can be a great way to bring nature indoors. Buy some potted plants!
The specific herbs you get depends on your needs. Lavender smells lovely and may help soothe your anxiety, while basil tastes really good on pizza.
Here’s an opportunity to break out all those luxurious fabrics. In the wintertime, try to go for long, opaque curtains made of thick material.
In the summer, however, you’ll need to go with lighter curtains. They can work, so long as you style them properly. Try layering them for a more dramatic effect.
Dramatic curtains like these can transform your otherwise mundane living room into something out of a fantasy novel. Just make sure they’re floor-length.
In this day and age, stone houses are hard to come by. If you want to feel like you’re living in a castle, though, you’ll need some stone.
Stone accents are a great compromise. They introduce a bit of the Medieval to your home without completely overwhelming it. Same goes for iron accents.
Wrought iron is similar in that it brings a cool Medieval flair to pretty much everything. Check out some ironworks companies and see what they offer.
Unless you already live in a castle, it might be hard to get your library to look exactly like the Red Keep’s. Imitating it isn’t as hard.
Got lots of old books and knick-knacks? Great! With them, your home library can fit right in with the rest of your Game of Thrones decor.
If you’ve read A Song of Ice and Fire, you could put them on display here. It’s also the perfect place to put your framed maps.
Now that you’ve got all the Game of Thrones decor you could possibly need, what’s next? What exactly do the finishing touches look like?
Candles and goblets are two great items that can elevate your home’s overall aesthetic. You can even make your own goblets out of wood or clay.
You don’t have to exclusively go with Medieval-esque stuff, either. Take this opportunity to show off your Game of Thrones collectibles and merchandise.
