This Bride’s Letter To Her Friends Has Gone Viral Because She Sounds So Evil

Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful, and it’s a time that, unfortunately, can bring out the worst in some people. One recent story that went viral on social media is proof of that: a bride called off her wedding because guests would not pay for it, and no, that’s not a joke.

Over the last few days, an uninvolved source spread the story around on Twitter. It’s so wild that it almost seems like it came straight from a movie plot — it’s basically proof that bridezillas do indeed exist.

On Saturday, Twitter user @olspicykeychain tweeted a series of screenshots featuring a long Facebook status she spotted in a wedding-shaming group on Facebook. The screenshots made up a long, truly unbelievable story about a bride who demanded $1,500 from each guest in order to create her dream wedding.

The first screenshot starts off tame: it’s the Facebook status of an anonymous woman explaining that she had decided to call off her wedding four days before it was set to happen.

In the first paragraph, she writes that she has decided to backpack through South Africa in order to rid herself of “toxic energy” from her friends and family. At first, you feel bad for her. This poor woman! Clearly, something awful happened to ruin her wedding!

The second screenshot is when she starts to really get into the details of what went down… and that’s when you stop feeling so sorry for her.

She writes about how she met her now ex-fiancé, had a child, and decided they wanted to get married, saying they saved up nearly $15,000 of their own money for their wedding. After looking into it, they discovered that their dream wedding would cost $60,000… and that’s when things get good. She says, “We specifically, I mean specifically asked for cash gifts. How could we have OUR wedding that WE dreamed of without proper funding?”

It gets even more intense.

In the third screenshot, she writes that she asked each guest to donate $1,500, stating, “If you couldn’t contribute, you weren’t invited to our exclusive wedding. It’s a once and a lifetime party.” When only eight people replied to the RSVPs, they were “livid.” Her ex’s family and maid of honor backed out and took back the money they had offered. One notable line is, “I mean seriously people, what is $1,000?” and “I’ve heard of people asking for worse.” The couple even set up a GoFundMe that didn’t work out.

The next screenshot goes into detail on how the once bride-to-be fought with her now ex-fiancé and maid-of-honor, both of whom tried to talk her into a smaller wedding. The best line? “I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day and then live my life like normal.”

Finally, the story concludes. And it’s pretty clear that this woman thinks everyone should feel sorry for her.

Except, well, no one does. Sure, money is a typical wedding present, but to ask for it is incredibly rude. To ask for a specific amount? Even worse! And to ask for something outrageous like $1,500? That’s basically unheard of.

This is such a ridiculous story that it almost seems like satire. One reason we think it’s real, though, is that the Twitter user who posted it also posted a screenshot of two comments from Facebook users on the original post, one of whom said, “I have no words. You’re out of your mind.”

We might never know the true identity of this person, who is probably, at this moment, backpacking through South Africa, blissfully unaware of the viral social media villain she has become. Maybe one day they’ll come forward! Until then, we’ll be reading this whenever we need a good laugh.
