And just like that, the fire has been snuffed out. Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande have reportedly called it quits and honestly, we should have seen it coming. Sure, paparazzi pics depicted the duo as a loving, newly engaged couple, walking while holding hands. However, if we had been paying close attention, we would have noticed that Davidson and Grande have been dropping breakup hints for weeks.
Although we were just informed of the pair’s potential parting on October 14th, Page Six sniffed out trouble in paradise early last week. On October 10th, Page Six reported that the Saturday Night Live star covered up his Grande-inspired bunny mask tattoo located behind his ear. Davidson inked a large black heart over the Dangerous Woman tat paired with a lowercase “a.”
A source told Page Six that the tattoo was altered to match a heart tattoo of Grande’s, and fans shouldn’t be concerned. However, Davidson has a history with covering up ex-related tattoos — he covered his tat of ex Cazzie David with trees before getting serious with Grande. We should have taken his most recent coverup as a warning sign, but alas…
Besides what was there in literal black and white, Grande made a few last-minute decisions that should have been red flags for fans.

The Sweetener singer first pulled out of her scheduled SNL appearance on September 17th for “emotional reasons,” as producer Lorne Michaels confirmed. She was replaced with Kanye West, who gave a memorable performance.
Grande then dropped out of the F—ck Cancer’s Barbara Berlanti Heroes Gala held on October 13th. Manager Scooter Braun played host at the event and stated, “Someone that I am very close to could not be here today because of things that she is going through. She couldn’t be here today, and while I was frustrated, being a manager, my wife, being who she always is, said to me, ‘She needs this time.'”

Most assumed Grande pulled back from the public eye after her ex Mac Miller was found dead on September 7th. She and Miller remained close after ending their two-year relationship.
A string of emotionally charged tweets from Grande throughout September led fans to believe that Grande was (understandably) taking Miller’s death hard. She told fans on Twitter that September had been tough and she was trying to get back to normal.

As a source told TMZ on the 14th, Grande and Davidson realized that this isn’t the right time for their relationship to blossom. Neither party has confirmed the split, but after such a rough month, it makes sense that Grande might need some time to heal.
We have hope that these two may rekindle later on in life. But for now, we’re sending them love and support to get through this potentially tumultuous time.
