When one marries into the royal family, one is expected to follow the royal family’s rules. Since her May 19th marriage to Prince Harry, former American actress Meghan Markle has been trying her best to abide by these rules and regulations. She’s paired down her nail polish collection to just nudes and stands when the Queen stands. But there’s one royal rule Markle is having a hard time following, and girl, we feel you.
According to a source who is cited in last week’s People Magazine, Markle “has found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way.”
Just recently, Markle attended the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Finals dressed in a crisp button-down shirt and white culottes. But perhaps Markle got away with bending the “women in skirts” rule because Queen Elizabeth wasn’t in attendance. We won’t tell if you won’t, Meghan.
“I think she finds it a little frustrating at times,” the source told People, “but this is her new life, and she has to deal with it.”

Although Markle is definitely a fish out of water in her new lifestyle, she has a great support system helping her with the transition from American actress to member of the British royal family.
Samantha Cohen, the Queen’s former assistant private secretary, who has been working for the royal family for 17 years, according to HarpersBazaar.com, is now in charge of guiding Markle through “duchess training.” This consists of teachings about the monarchy and Commonwealth, as well as briefings on the ins and outs of public outings.
So, yeah — it’s basically like the real-life Princess Diaries.

And, of course, Prince Harry is always at arm’s length to answer Markle’s royal-related questions. It’s only a matter of time before the royal family rules become second nature to the new Duchess.
But if Markle wants to sneak in an outfit where pants are involved here and there, we’ll stay mum if the Queen comes asking.
