Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart Breakup After 2 Years — Or Did They?

Bughead is dead, guys — or are they still together?

Reports from Us Weekly, E! News, and People Magazine, have shared that Riverdale fans’ worst fear has become a reality. On-and-off screen couple Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart reportedly broke up after two years of dating.

While the couple kept their relationship under the radar, the pair met playing love interests Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones on the CW’s drama based on the Archie comic series.

According to E! News, the Riverdale co-stars “have been intentionally keeping their distance from the other;” however, now that Riverdale is back in production, they’re back to filming together and are on “much better terms.”

Any tension or drama between the pair seems to be put on the backburner, considering they were reportedly “all smiles at the show’s Comic-Con 2019 panel in San Diego just days before.”

Days after multiple outlets reported on the split, both Sprouse and Reinhart posted about the rumors on Instagram — and it was saucy.

“BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that you don’t know sh*t,” Reinhart captioned her photo.

She used the cover of W Magazine for which she and Sprouse posed. Sprouse followed suit, using the same photo and adding his own bit of snark:

Well, it seems like the two young Riverdale stars have a message for the haters, and it’s stay out of our business. Whether they are still together or have broken up and just want some space during this emotionally trying time, people should respect their privacy.

In an interview last September with Glamour, Cole revealed it wasn’t love at first sight.

“Lili was a tough egg to crack, she’s very shy at first, reserved, and I think it was about halfway into the first season she started letting people in truly,” he explained. “And she’s one of those people that consistently pushes me to be better at the arts that I’m pursuing, and that’s just the kind of person she is, she inspires excellence out of everybody she works with.”

The feeling was mutual for Lili, who admitted she first found his voice “annoying.”

Nevertheless, sparks flew and the romance rumors began to start after Cole shared a picture of his former flame in a field of flowers.

Even as the pair stayed quiet about dating for the first year, declining to address the speculation, Cole, ultimately opened up to PEOPLE about their decision to stay low-key.

“Lili and I are constantly talked about in the public eye, and for me I think that it is being deeply informed by the love of the characters and wanting to see us together,” he said. “I think that in many ways it’s offensive and an invasion of privacy, but it’s also a badge of honor because it means you’re creating a chemistry onscreen that is so understandable that people want to see it in real life, which is flattering from a professional perspective.”

Eventually the two became more public, debuting their relationship by posing together at the 2018 Met Gala.

Even after the red carpet walk, Lili turned down the chance to share their love story and told Harper’s Bazaar in July 2018, “I’m not okay talking about my relationship. I’m not going to tell you my love story. That’s just not appropriate right now.”

Even so, she and Cole both posted some absolutely adorable shots of themselves of the course of their relationship on social media.

One detail we know for sure?

They both loved going on adventures.

“I like to go on adventures with Cole,” she told Teen Vogue in October. “Truly, adventures. He takes me to places where I’m like, ‘How did you find this?’ He’s made me see these things that I would have never seen otherwise. It’s escapism, which is so beautiful and wonderful.”

Cole Sprouse reiterated a similar interest to Glamour magazine saying, “I really like the road trip date. I took my girlfriend on a date where we drove to this location deep into Canada, and I surprised her with a big hot-air balloon adventure, which was quite a bit of fun.”

“I like traveling quite a bit. I like road-tripping. Those grand experiences always end up yielding the greatest memories — and the greatest romances,” he added.
