Meghan Markle’s Dad Is Worried About Her, And It All Sounds Really Sad

We’ve delighted in getting to know more about Meghan Markle over the last year. She’s a style icon, a talented actress, and a wonderful wife to her new royal hubby, Prince Harry. Meghan seems like someone we could easily be best friends with IRL. So when we heard that there was fresh family drama brewing in her life, our hearts immediately broke for her. We can’t help it; we feel very protective of Meghan.

Meghan’s first round of family drama started back in May, right before her wedding to Prince Harry. Her dad, Thomas Markle, was unable to attend the royal wedding. He needed to get heart surgery and as a result, would not be able to walk her down the aisle. But instead of handling the family business in private, Thomas made a spectacle of the whole thing (he staged paparazzi photos that made it look like he was actually attending the wedding by pretending to be getting fitted for a suit — it was all very bizarre). The staged photos were leaked on May 12th. Technically the heart surgery news broke on the 15th of May. In the end, it was all okay; Prince Charles filled in and walked Meghan partially down the aisle on her wedding day.

Now, almost two months later, Thomas is apparently ready for round two. He spoke to the media about his daughter yet again, sharing that he’s “worried” about her new life.

“My thing about my daughter right now is that I think she is terrified. I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile,” Thomas told The Sun, InStyle reports. “I’ve seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile — this is a pained smile.”

What makes him think that? Thomas believes that the pressure of being a royal is getting to Meghan.

“I think she’s under too much pressure,” Thomas continued. “There’s a high price to pay to be married to that family.”

Thomas also shared a message for Meghan.

“My message [to her] would be, ‘I love you, I miss you, I’m sorry for anything that went wrong,'” Thomas said. “And I want to be her [future] child’s grandfather and I want to be near them. I want to be a part of their life. I’d like to put our differences behind us and get together. I miss you very much.”

Every family is unique. But it seems to us that if Thomas wants to have a good relationship with his daughter, rather than speaking through media outlets, he should reach out directly to her. It also seems to us that Meghan was well aware of the pressure and scrutiny she’d be under as a member of the royal family. And, for what it’s worth, we think she’s been nothing but poised and eloquent so far. We wish them nothing but a positive father/daughter relationship and hope they can settle into a new family routine.
