Meghan Markle Always Wears Too-Big Shoes For This Genius Reason

Even before becoming a duchess, Meghan Markle was in the spotlight. (She was the star of Suits, after all.) And since she’s got an impeccable sense of style, it’s somewhat shocking that fans are just picking up on one of her signature moves now. It seems like in a lot of recent photos taken of Markle, her shoes look like they’re one size too big. She still pulls it off, but once you see it, you’ll notice that it’s a common trend.

So the big question is — why? Well, Markle does this for a reason. And if you’re always on your feet, you might want to take note. Harriet Davey, a fashion expert, spoke to The Sun and said that Markle isn’t the only celebrity to pull a move like this. “Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet, and it’s for one reason we can all relate to — to avoid blisters,” she explained.

Blisters are often hard to avoid with heels — and based on Markle’s new title, she’ll be wearing heels quite a bit. So really, the move is a preventative measure to give her feet a little bit of much-needed breathing room.

“When celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time, their feet can often swell up. The swelling can cause blisters and in the long-run, bunions — like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumored to suffer with,” Davey continued.

Davey said that many celebrities stuff the toe area of their shoes with cotton or tissue to help them walk better with the bigger shoes. “This can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes,” she noted.
