Handmade Scroll Invitations

Handmade scroll invitations sound like a hassle, but they’re not too difficult. Roll up some parchment paper, tie it with twine, and seal it with wax.

Want to go the extra mile? Personalize each scroll with the house sigil of your choice. This small detail will add a fun, immersive element to your viewing party.

If you don’t want to take it that far, don’t worry. You can still make it look cool by burning the edges of the paper.

Dragon Egg Centerpieces

This neat DIY craft went viral on Reddit around 2018 for its ingenuity. Want to replicate it? You’ll need tacks. 500 of them, to be exact.

Next, you’ll need a few foam eggs. Stick the tacks into them, and boom! You’ve got yourself some dragon eggs. Paint them whichever color you want.

A HotD viewing party is the perfect place for this throwback. You might not be able to make a bunch, but you can make one as a table centerpiece.

DIY House Banners

This DIY project is a bit more involved than the previous two. Cut your chosen fabric into the desired shape, then sew on the border.

Then, trace the sigil onto a piece of felt. You could sew it on, but it’s easier if you just hot glue it.

If you don’t have the sewing skills for this, that’s fine. Alternatively, you could simply iron the house sigils onto felt pieces. They’ll be smaller, but still effective.

Medieval Table Settings

This is where you can have a lot of fun. Use rustic wooden plates, goblets, and simple linen napkins to set a medieval scene.

Add candleholders and metal utensils to enhance the atmosphere. You can incorporate elements like faux fur placemats or dragon-themed table runners (more on that later).

The table is also a great place to put any random HotD crafts you don’t know what else to do with. Case in point: the dragon eggs.

Dragonglass Dagger

Like the idea of a medieval table setting, but don’t know what else to put on it? This DIY dragonglass dagger is another solid contender.

Just a heads up: it takes a bit of elbow grease. This guy on Imgur fashioned his out of heated Instamorph, before painting it black.

To give it dragonglass’s sheen, he coated it with enamel. You probably only have enough time to make one, but it’ll be worth every minute.

Homemade Sigil Coasters

You can create homemade sigil coasters using cork or wooden discs. The house sigils can either be painted or stenciled on — whatever floats your boat.

To protect them from spills, seal the coasters with a waterproof finish. This vital step will make them both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Want a more out-of-the-box DIY idea? Try fashioning these coasters out of ceramic tiles. It might even be easier than doing it with cork.

Dragon Scale Table Runner

Told you we’d get back to this one. We’d never forget a DIY idea as cool as this. Really, anything with dragon scales is a guaranteed hit.

Cut felt or fabric into scale shapes and sew or glue them onto a base. Layer the scales for a more realistic look.

If you want a more dramatic effect, choose metallic or dark colors. This table runner will be absolutely stunning. You could (and should) keep it all-year round.

Throne-Inspired Seating

Okay, we know that this viewing party technically isn’t for Game of Thrones. The Iron Throne is still crucial, though (even if it looks a bit different).

To start, you’ll need a lawn chair. You can fashion swords out of cardboard and add duct tape and/or spray paint for a metallic effect.

Of course, you can only have one Iron Throne. Still, that doesn’t mean that your other chairs can’t be ornate. Add studded details or draped fabric.

Westerosi Map Placemats

Start by printing maps of Westeros onto heavy paper or fabric. If you’re an artist, you could even take a crack at drawing them yourself!

Regardless of the type of map you choose, you’ll want to laminate them. This will protect them from spills and stains, making them infinitely reusable.

What’s more, these nifty placemats can double as memorable keepsakes for your friends. If you’re willing to give away your handiwork, that is.

DIY Dragon Tail Garland

Create a DIY dragon tail garland using colored felt or construction paper. Cut out tail shapes, then string them together for the perfect HotD-themed decoration.

You can hang the garland across your mantel, doorways, or party table. You don’t have to make them all look the same, either.

Mix and match colors to represent different dragons from the series. If you want, you could even invite some people over to make them with you.

Homemade Potion Bottles

Got some old glass bottles lying around? You can turn them into homemade potion bottles with a bit of paint and creativity.

Fill the bottles with colored water, glittery liquids, or just straight up alcohol. Arrange them on your party table with the rest of your decorations.

Use cork stoppers and twine for an authentic, old-world feel. These potion bottles will enhance your decor and (depending on what you put in it) get the party started.

Iron Throne Cake Topper

Your guests will need something sweet to munch on while watching HotD. And what’s more worthy of topping a cake than the Iron Throne?

There’s multiple ways to go about it. If you love to bake, you can craft the Iron Throne with fondant, using food coloring to add metallic touches.

Alternatively, you can use non-edible materials like clay or painted cardboard for a reusable topper. Either way, this cake topper will be a show-stopper.

Bean Bag Toss

Want a fun way to pass the time before the episode? Make your own bean bag toss boards! They’re super simple, and you’ll get a lot out of them.

To make, use plywood for the board, and prop it up with a wooden frame. Decorate the targets with house sigils and corresponding colors.

You can make the bean bags too, in a way that’s super eco-friendly. Simply use old fabric scraps and fill them with rice or beans.

Dragon Egg Treats

What’s better than a project you can eat? If you’re in the mood for something sweet, make dragon egg treats using colorful chocolate eggs.

If you don’t like chocolate, but still want to satisfy your sweet tooth, make dragon egg cake pops. Dip them in candy melts and decorate with edible scales.

You could also bake bread shaped like dragon eggs, adding herbs for texture and flavor. Regardless of what you choose, it’ll be delish.

House Motto Wall Decals

You can easily make decals with adhesive vinyl. Word to the wise: use well-known, easy mottos, or just go with the house sigils.

House Targaryen’s “Fire and Blood” is the most obvious choice. For a throwback, you could go with House Stark’s ever-iconic “Winter is Coming.”

Position the decals in your main viewing area or entryway. They serve as excellent conversation starters and set the tone for your House of the Dragon viewing party.

Dragon Scale Wall Art

Don’t worry: dragon scale wall art isn’t as tough as it sounds, especially if you’re already artsy. All you need is paint and a canvas.

Layer globs of paint in a pattern, so that it’s a textured replica of dragon scales. For a more striking, eye-catching effect, use more iridescent paints.

It may take a little while to finish, but it’ll come out nicely. Hang it up next your TV to show off your hard work!

Dragon Horn Headbands

Cosplay enthusiast? It’s time to go all out. So long as you’ve got a headband and some foam (or clay), you can go wild with possible horn designs.

To make them stand out, paint the horns with vibrant colors. Attach them securely to a headband with hot glue so they don’t fall off mid-episode.

You could even get your friends to join in on the crafting sesh. While not a necessity, it’ll definitely add to the atmosphere.

Hodor Door Stop

This one is technically Game of Thrones related, but I’m sure you get the reference. It’s too good not to include (though I’m sorry if it makes you sad).

At its most basic level, you’ll need a wooden block and paint. All you really need to do is write his name on the back of it.

If you want to go all out like whoever made the doorstop above, feel free. You might need more technical skills to accomplish that, though.

Dragon Skin Bottle Cozy

Sure, you could do this with faux leather or something similar, and we’d commend you for the effort. But the duct tape’s right there.

When it comes to dragons, the standard silver works perfectly. Fold the pieces of tape into triangles and layer them on top of each other.

It’s simple, but it is time-consuming (depending on the size of your bottle). Even so, we recommend only doing this once or twice.

Dragon Egg Box

Yes, we know, it’s another direct Game of Thrones reference. But it’s still relevant to House of the Dragon, and totally worth making.

If you don’t want your thumbtack dragon eggs rolling off the table, what better place is there to keep them? Prop open the box to put them on display.

You don’t have to make the box yourself. Repurpose an old wooden box by painting or carving the Targaryen sigil on top of it.
