Meghan Markle Is No Longer Allowed To Wear This Nail Polish Color

Since marrying Prince Harry and becoming an official member of the royal family, Meghan Markle has had to follow many new guidelines. And apparently, being part of Britain’s most important family comes with a lot of rules! In the last few weeks, we’ve heard that Meghan and Harry aren’t allowed to show PDA or eat certain foods when traveling, and Meghan even has to sit a specific way. It’s overwhelming, and it’s not even happening to us! So we’re not too shocked to hear that Meghan is no longer allowed to wear this kind of nail polish…at this point, the weird rules are pretty much expected.

So what does she have to avoid whenever going to get a manicure?

Her choices are seriously limited — the royal family is not supposed to wear bright-colored nail polish, or any colored nail polish that isn’t a neutral. This definitely makes manis a lot less fun and colorful!

According to OK! magazine, sources close to the royal family say that they aren’t supposed to wear colored nail polish because it’s “simply royal etiquette, as fake nails or colored nail polish is deemed vulgar by the royal family.”

You may have noticed this rule in effect. In fact, Queen Elizabeth is known for being a huge fan of a super light neutral pink shade called Ballet Slippers, made by Essie. She is almost always seen with it on her nails, no matter the occasion or what else she’s wearing.

Her love of the color seems to have been passed on to other members of the royal family.

Kate Middleton supposedly requested Ballet Slippers for her wedding to Prince William, although according to her manicurist, Marina Sandoval, she actually mixed Bourjois Rose Lounge and Essie Allure to create a custom shade.

During Meghan and Harry’s first public outing, Glamour noted that Meghan was wearing a shade of pink that looked remarkably similar to Ballet Slippers. It’s also suspected that Meghan wore Ballet Slippers when marrying Prince Harry.

There’s no official word on whether or not members of the royal family are allowed to wear colored nail polish, but it certainly seems like they won’t be doing so anytime soon!
