Disney Characters Were Turned Into Oil Paintings That Show Us What They’d Look Like IRL

We’ve all dreamt about what being a real-life Disney heroine would feel and look like. Imagine having Merida’s hair, befriending a little blue alien, or being wrapped up in a whole “frog prince” situation. Artist Heather Theurer has brought these beloved Disney characters to life through oil paint and each reinterpretation deserves its own space at any of the fine art museums throughout the world.

Theurer, who also paints gorgeous religious scenes, mythical creatures, animals, and wildlife, told BuzzFeed on November 1st that she’s mostly inspired by life.

She told the site, “It’s interesting, in retrospect, I’ve noticed that most, if not all, of my paintings spawn from experiences I was going through at the time. And one of the truest joys I’ve ever had are those shared with my viewers when they connect with those same (or similar) emotions and revelations.”

Although each of Theurer’s pieces is utterly breathtaking, some of her most jaw-dropping pieces are those that depict Disney heroines in reality. Each character has been reshaped into a more realistic body type with less cartoonish features. They’re soft, yet powerful, and can take your imagination to incredible places.

Just check out Theurer’s reimagining of Alice from Alice in Wonderland. The expression, the rabbit hole, and the entire background complete with cards, the Mad Hatter, roses, and other “easter eggs” is awe-inspiring.
