I love a good scary story every now and then, but could you imagine hearing an ominous nursery rhyme playing continuously every night for over a year? BYE. Last September, this nightmare became a reality for residents in the British town of Ipswich, where they would hear “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring” for several hours in the middle of the night. Thankfully, ghosts weren’t singing the eerie song — it was just spiders. NBD.
Okay, it is a big deal, and resident Alice Randle told The Independent, “It’s like something out of Freddy Krueger.” Though it took some time, investigators found that the song tune was being played through the loudspeakers at a nearby warehouse to scare off any late night trespassers.

“The sound is only supposed to act as a deterrent for opportunistic thieves that come onto our property, and it is only designed to be heard on our private land,” a spokesperson for the warehouse told the Ipswich Star. “We are now aware of the problem — the motion sensors were being triggered by spiders crawling across the motion censors of our cameras and it looks like we’ve had it turned up too loudly.”

Now that the mystery has been solved, the residents of Ipswich can finally catch up on some much-needed sleep. There’s a lesson to be learned from this – next time you’re installing a security system on your property, you might want to re-think using a nursery rhyme as cautionary audio. Instead, maybe use some Halloween decorations to scare off those un-wanted visitors?
