People Are Using Gifs To Express Their Relationship Status And We Are All Dying (Alone) Of Laughter

If you had to describe your relationship status with a GIF, which one would it be?

Okay, thought of it? Because this is just what people have been doing for a while now — on Twitter, that is. Apparently, the whole idea is to share a single, solitary gif that represents your relationship. Of course, this gif could be cute, melodramatic, sexy, sweet, or just plain…sad.

And all we can say is, wow, relatable. It’s kind of hilarious that there are so many people hopping on board the relationship-gif train, especially because it can be hard to summarize a whole entire relationship into one little image.

It all started when a user, Jay, via @LifeOfJay98, posted the tweet:

“Post your relationship status using ONLY A GIF.”

Whether they meant status — as in single, polyamorous, married, dating, sex only, engaged, etc. — or relationship vibe, who knows, but the answers that people delivered are truly hilarious (and sometimes heartbreaking). And this single tweet, as simple as it is, has already amassed 235 retweets and 2.6 thousand likes. 

It’s amazing how Twitter can really manage to bring people together through such a simple statement or question, that is when people aren’t fighting and insulting one another.

And we just can’t help but wonder: What would your gif be?

Then there’s the bad dates of the bunch.

We’ve all felt like we had to literally jump out of a moving car (or have a friend call us to as with an “emergency.”

There’s nothing like sitting in bed, heartbroken, eating a bunch of chocolate. We’ve all been there.

The winner? This tweet, which is a gif stating, “Alone! And loving it.”

We love it. In a society that values couples, it’s nice to see someone who is so proud of being alone.

No relationship should feel like a gladiator’s game.

Fries before guys, anyone? Maybe just this user, but girl we feel.

This Twitter user stole a love scene straight out of The Notebook. Sounds like someone in in love!

Physical intimacy may be a little overrated for this couple? Or maybe they’re just super in sync.

You’d be lying to say kids don’t totally overhaul a relationship… case and point:

In the end, we all know there’s more to any relationship than a single picture.

We just hope, no matter what you’re going through or feeling, that you are taking care of yourself — married, single, or broken up.
