On Wednesday, October 31st, Kim Kardashian West posted a video to her Instagram Story in which she used the R-word. After receiving serious backlash from her fans and supporters of the special needs community, Kardashian has since issued an apology.
Kardashian used the R-word in reference to the fact that guests at sister Kendall Jenner’s Halloween party were unaware who Kardashian was dressed as. The reality television star dressed up as Pamela Anderson from the 1999 VMAs. BFF Jonathan Cheban went as Anderson’s then-husband Tommy Lee.
“I want to apologize for what I said in a recent video post that is inappropriate and insensitive to the special needs community,” Kardashian stated to TMZ on November 1st. “I try to learn from my mistakes and this is one of those times. Please know that my intention is always pure, and in this case, it was a mistake. I’m sorry.”
In the since-deleted video, which has been re-uploaded to Twitter from various accounts, Kardashian dropped the R-word very casually and in a joking manner. Many fans took to Twitter to express their distaste for her word choice, and some even shared photos of their loved ones with special needs to drive home the fact that the R-word is hurtful and offensive.

Despite her apology, many are still upset with Kardashian and the fact that she used the R-word so freely.
Although she most likely did not mean to offend, it’s disappointing to know that the R-word is still part of her vocabulary. As she stated, we hope she has learned from this mistake.
