At this point, we’re all well aware that life as a member of the royal family is quite different from life as a “normal” person. Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married, we’ve heard about several different rules she has to follow in her new life: She can’t wear certain nail polish colors, she can’t eat certain foods when traveling, and she can’t participate in too much PDA. The latest rule is something Meghan won’t be able to do as a new mom now that she’s a royal, and honestly, it’s kind of sad. (But it also makes sense.)

According to Express, Meghan won’t be able to have a baby shower if she and Prince Harry decide to have a child. And while the reasoning behind this royal rule makes a lot of sense, it’s still a bummer. After all, getting to celebrate your first baby surrounded by family and friends is exciting!

The reason Meghan won’t be able to have a baby shower is simple: The royal family doesn’t need any more presents. Royal expert and commentator Victoria Arbiter spoke to ABC when Kate Middleton was pregnant with Prince George in 2013 and said, “…They are clearly very wealthy, and a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate. There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”

You can’t argue with that! This is a family that has everything, and as for anything they don’t have? They certainly have the money to purchase it themselves. When you’re from a family with that much money, it does seem a little tacky to ask others to buy you things.

As Bustle points out, it also makes sense since baby showers aren’t as popular in the United Kingdom as they are in the United States. Of course, Meghan is from the U.S., and so she may have wanted a baby shower, but it looks like that probably won’t happen… unless she chooses to do something without gifts.

This isn’t the only rule Meghan will have to follow if she gets pregnant. According to Express, one big rule is that the gender of the baby cannot be revealed to the world until it’s born. She will also have to keep traveling abroad to a minimum, as the royal family would rather her be close to home just in case an emergency happens. She’ll also have to tell the Queen about the birth of the baby before anyone else knows.

Still, there’s always the chance that Meghan and Harry choose to break from tradition and do things on their own terms, as they’ve done in the past. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
