Ace Hardware Is Closing More Stores in 2026. See If Your Location Is on the List

Ace Hardware’s latest earnings report set records for both revenue and profit. Yet in the same stretch of 2026, shop owners from coast to coast have been flipping their signs to “closed” for the last time. Some of the stores had served the same community for the better part of a century. Others were barely a decade old. The confirmed list spans the Northeast, the South, the Midwest, the Rockies and the Pacific coast. The explanation starts with how Ace is built.
Ace’s 5,283 U.S. Stores Answer to 5,283 Different Owners, and Each Closure Has Its Own Story

Ace operates as a retailer-owned cooperative, so each of its nearly 5,300 locations in all 50 states is independently owned. Owner-operator Jeff Smith told Inc. that every Ace store is “sized and stocked to best cater to the neighborhood that they serve.” That freedom also means no single boardroom decision shuts a store. Retirements, leases and money troubles all play out one shop at a time. The oldest store on the list had been open for 94 years.
Woodside Ace Hardware in Winthrop, Massachusetts, Shut Its Doors in August After 94 Years

The store at 65 Main Street, Winthrop, MA 02152, is the longest-running business on the 2026 closure list. Its longtime owner retired in 2021, and the shop kept going under new ownership for several more years before closing this August. Neighbors who grew up buying screws and paint there now have to look elsewhere. The closure came just weeks before Ace released financial results that looked like the picture of a company in great shape.
Ace Booked $3 Billion in Quarterly Revenue While the Number of Customer Visits Slipped 1.9%

Ace’s second quarter brought record revenue of $3.0 billion and net income of $155.6 million. Underneath, same-store transactions fell 1.9%, and a 3.1% bump in average ticket pushed same-store sales up 1.1%. The company added 34 stores and cancelled 17. Inc. notes that Home Depot, Lowe’s and Amazon now control roughly 56% to 57% of the home improvement market, squeezing independents. Two of the closures sit in the same Southern state.
Two Florida Ace Stores, on Central Avenue in Jasper and Suwannee Avenue in Branford, Have Closed

Florida is the only state with a pair of entries on Inc.’s confirmed list. The first is at 202 Central Avenue NW, Jasper, FL 32052. The second is at 105 Suwannee Avenue NW, Branford, FL 32008. Both are small North Florida towns where a hardware store often doubles as the place to find a hard-to-find part and a familiar face. Inc.’s list gives no reason for either closure. In Tennessee, one owner put her reasons on the record.
East Memphis Owner Cites Falling Sales and Rising Rent for Closing the Quince Road Ace

The store at 5143 Quince Road, Memphis, TN 38117, opened in 2007 and changed hands in 2019. Owner Janelle Carter told The Daily Memphian in late June that she would not renew the lease, pointing to a drop in sales and higher rent. The store was set to close by the end of July. Tennessee’s story is about a lease. California’s involves courtrooms.
California’s San Dimas Ace Is Gone, and Two Other Golden State Operators Filed for Chapter 11

The confirmed closure in California is at 201 W Bonita Avenue, San Dimas, CA 91773. Separately, Inc. reports that D&D Venture Group, operator of Chase Ace Hardware in Northern California, and Woodcrest Ace Hardware in Riverside have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Neither filing named a specific reason. Those two stores are not on the confirmed closure list. Three more states on that list sit far from either coast.
Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Mississippi Each Lost an Ace on a Small-Town Main Drag

In Pennsylvania, the store at 631 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA 15701, is closed. Minnesota’s is at 212-214 Chestnut Street, Virginia, MN 55792. Mississippi’s is at 118 Highway 12 W, Suite 10, Starkville, MS 39759. Each is a regional hub where shoppers once had few other choices for tools, paint and plumbing parts. Three states remain, and one of them is the state where Ace is headquartered.
Colorado, Texas and Illinois Close Out the List, With Ace’s Home State on It

In Colorado, the store at 155 E Main Street, Aguilar, CO 81020, has closed. In Texas, it is the one at 3044 Old Denton Road, Carrollton, TX 75007. The final entry is 20 E Quincy Street, Westmont, IL 60559. Illinois is where Ace is based, in Oak Brook. That makes eleven stores across ten states, from a company that still reports record earnings.
Eleven Closures Trace Back to Eleven Owners, Not to a Failing Ace

The 2026 closures come from retirements, lease fights, rising rent and bankruptcy filings, not from a company-wide retreat. Ace’s own numbers show its U.S. store count up by 88 from a year earlier, even as fewer customers walk through the door of each store. Anyone in Massachusetts, Florida, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Mississippi, Tennessee, California, Colorado, Texas or Illinois can check the addresses above. Every other Ace is still its own owner’s call.
